Paintable skirting boards

Whether you are a fan of high or low skirting boards, if you want a seamless transition from wall to floor then paintable skirting boards are exactly what you need. Then you can easily paint them the same colour as your wall. Parquetvinyl has three types of paintable skirting boards: a standard paintable skirting board in two sizes, handy add-on skirting boards and minimalist quarter-round skirting boards.

Repaintable skirting boards

Parquetvinyl's standard repaintable skirting boards are available in two sizes: the familiar 8 cm and the slightly lower 6 cm for a more modern and minimalist look. Do you want to finish your wall with an eye-catching colour, a special painting technique with distemper or a concrete look, or a sleek traffic white? You can easily extend your wall finish to these paintable skirting boards.

Add-on skirting boards

Add-on skirting boards are useful when you want to conceal an existing skirting board – for example, when you install Parquetvinyl on an existing tiled floor and can’t or don’t want to remove the tile skirting boards. You can install these skirting boards quickly and easily without damaging your wall. Moreover, thanks to handy cuts on the backs of the add-on skirting boards, you can cut them to the right height. Extra bonus? Add-on skirting boards are also very useful for hiding messy cables.

Quarter-round skirting boards

Quarter-round skirting boards have an elegant and quirky appearance that is playful or subtle depending on the finish you choose. For these skirting boards, your wall must be perfectly plastered almost to the floor, because the quarter-round skirting boards are just 1.4 cm high. They can be painted over just as easily as our other paintable skirting boards.

Matching skirting boards

Matching skirting boards or decorative skirting boards have the same colour and finish as your floor. So you can use them to extend the natural wood or stone look of your vinyl floor to your skirting board. They are extremely strong and protect your wall against moisture and knocks. All our decorative skirting boards are water-resistant and therefore suitable for your bathroom and kitchen.

Low decorative skirting boards

From our lightest acoustic vinyl floor to our darkest herringbone, we have matching skirting boards for every colour and collection. The Parquetvinyl decorative strips are 6 cm high and finished with a textured lacquer to give them an identical look to your floor. Fun fact: if you place the decorative skirting board on the floor, you will see a colour difference that disappears when you place the skirting board against the wall. That is due to the incidence of light. So always assess a skirting board at the angle in which you are installing it.

Adhesive skirting boards

Adhesive skirting boards provide yet another subtle finish. Just stick these narrow strips, which have an identical finish to your floor, on the floor next to the wall. Thanks to the self-adhesive strip, they are very easy to install. Parquetvinyl adhesive skirting boards are water-resistant and made of PVC from recycled plastic. Just like our standard decorative skirting boards, which are available for every colour and every collection.

Frequently asked questions

  • Not just the floor but also the skirting boards in your bathroom must be able to withstand a splash of water. That is why Parquetvinyl’s matching skirting boards are moisture-resistant. They are made of hydrophobic MDF with the green pigment omitted. That way, you can be sure that no green pigment shines through in light finishes. The back of the skirting board displays the text ‘Water-resistant MDF’ so that the installer knows that it involves MDF with a low swelling rate. In damp spaces, the skirting boards should be sealed at the top and bottom with elastic transparent silicone.

  • The type of skirting boards you choose depends entirely on your personal taste. Low skirting boards look more minimalist, while high skirting boards can make your space appear optically larger. Paintable skirting boards in the same colour as the wall are almost invisible, while matching skirting boards may have a warmer look. For a neatly finished end result, it is best to carefully think about which profiles and stair profiles you want. Because with the right accessories you can give an extra personal touch to your interior!

  • Before you decide which type of skirting board you want, it is best to first look at the finish of the walls. Are they nicely plastered down to the floor? If so, you can choose almost any type of skirting board. If not, a standard skirting board of 8 cm or a low skirting board of 6 cm is more suitable. If you have an existing skirting board or cables that you need to conceal, then add-on skirting boards are the best option.

  • Classic skirting boards, such as surface-mounted skirting boards or paintable skirting boards, are usually glued to the wall with mounting kit or glue. It is important that you attach them only to the wall and not to the floor. Do not spray or seal the seam between the skirting board and the floor. You can also use adhesive skirting boards, which you simply attach to the floor with a handy self-adhesive strip.
